ABOUT THE LEGACY RANCH VISION:
After first planting the Legacy House for aged-out foster girls and their children eight years ago, we endeavored to plant the first Legacy House for Boys and succeeded one year ago thanks to your incredible generosity! We now have the opportunity to launch a small farm–the Legacy Ranch–which will double the amount of foster boys we can house, offer new experiences and work opportunities on the farm, welcome a House Parent Intern to assist with mentorship who will eventually be planted in their own Legacy House!
WHY $250,000?
The majority of small-farm properties available in the Florida market, that suit Legacy Housing’s needs, are listed between $500-600k USD. By raising $250k and combining with the equity in our current boys home, a low-estimate of $330k, we will have $580k to invest into the new Legacy Ranch endeavor. In this price range, we have located 6+ bedroom multi-family homes on 2+ acres of agricultural land featuring gardens, fruit trees, water wells, chicken and small livestock stables, solar power, and more. Absolutely perfect for Legacy’s needs!
ABOUT LEGACY HOUSING:
We prevent youth homelessness and sex trafficking by providing free quality housing for at-risk aged-out foster youth. Every year 25,000 children age out of foster care in the United States, with 5,000 aging out in Florida alone! ABOUT THE AGE-OUT FOSTER CRISIS:
- 20% of aged-out youth are immediately homeless on their 18th birthday, with many descending into homelessness shortly thereafter.
- 50% to 90% (different studies) of children who were victims of child sex trafficking had been involved with child welfare services (HHS, ACF, 2013).
- 48% of homeless youth between ages 18-23 performed paid sex acts simply because they lacked a safe place to stay. (COVENANT HOUSE NYC)
- There is less than a 3% chance for children who have aged out of foster care to earn a college degree at any point in their life.
